One evening I sat viewing a film on the life of Madame Blatsky the original Russian founder, and was so touched by her compassionate ways, that at the end of the film I made a comment to the effect that I have not met anyone at the TS who was so friendly and open like her. The response from Betty Bland who was conducting the event that evening was: " When I take over as president all that will change as I will try to create a friendly, unbiased, peaceful environment." I never forgot those words, but I seldom returned but since then I have heard that the TS has changed from an 'elite' academic crowd to one witn a welcoming attitude for all ethnic participants.
